"Rehearsing Mamet"

David Mamet is not often performed at small town community theaters. His language and subject matter does not quite gel with the works of Neil Simon or Jerry Herman. So when two aging community theater actors attempt to stage “Buffalo Variations” along with an eccentric new-age director, the results are enlightening for everyone involved.

Gary P. Cohen, Paul Kaye and Wayne Harris will read the script on Saturday, April 9th at 8 pm, under the direction of Michelle Massa.

The reading will be held at the wonderful historic Grist Mill, which is part of the Prallsville Mills in Stockton, N.J. on Saturday night, April 9, 2011.

Tickets are $5.00 and the reading begins at 8 p.m. For info please call: 609-397-3586 .

After the reading there will be a Q & A session with the cast and crew.

"Cartoon Limbo"

“Cartoon Limbo” is an exhibit featuring cartoons, comics, illustrations, rejections notes, correspondence - any printed matter related to the business of cartoons, comics, and illustrative art having been turned down for publication at some point, thereby landing in a sort of limbo - and sometimes finding its way out of limbo and into print at some point later as well.

It’s thrilling peek at never-before-seen art from the personal files of the artists who have made history and defined culture, including Charles Schulz, Stan Goldberg (“Archie”), Mort Walker (“Beetle Bailey”), Al Jaffee (“Mad” magazine), Bunny Hoest (“The Lockhorns”), James Thurber, Dr. Seuss, Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel (“Superman”), Chester Gould (“Dick Tracy”), Milton Caniff (“Terry and the Pirates,” “Steve Canyon”), Crockett Johnson (“Harold and the Purple Crayon”), and many others.

The exhibit will also highlight the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists’ annual “Golden Spike” awards for rejected editorial cartoons, as well as an elusive 1939 Exhibit of Rejected Cartoons that took place in Chicago.

“Cartoon Limbo” – April 15 - 27 on Thursdays through Sundays Noon to 5:00 pm. The show begins with an opening night costume ball and contest! Visit www.lewismatheney.com and scroll about halfway down the page for more info and join Cartoon Limbo on facebook. For Information: Cartoon Limbo (call the Mill office at 609-397-3586 for additional exhibit times and information about ticketed events).
